Available at the blog next door.

Hey, I'm a published author! Or, er, a published blogger. As opposed to "self-published" obviously. Ok, fine, more like a quoted commenter... But I'm still proud. And also, Vicki has saved me the work of a real post on the topic of local/organic eating -- which I've been meaning to do, and actually have several half-written drafts. Which may never see the light of day.

See here for today's diatribepost.

And, in fact, my comment on Vicki's blog was actually in response to her comment on Sleepwalker's blog which was a response to MY comment on the same.

See, it IS a community. :-)

(I'll be stealing Vicki's ideas for office decor next....)

Nemesis

This past Saturday, late in January, after the chaos of Christmas presents and birthday presents, McPie walked with the kids to Sears, to stock up on socks and underwear.

They came home with this:

A toy, but it does actually work. Apparently, Ben used his birthday money to buy it (and got change; he now has several twonies instead of a twenty, and is certain he came out on top of the transaction).

I cannot fathom why McPie would approve of such a purchase. I can only assume that the neighbours at the far end of the block called to complain that they couldn't clearly make out the detailed content of Ben's top-volume chatter. They felt left out of the community, because everyone else in the neighbourhood knows what's going on in our kid's life on a daily basis.

We are all about neighbourliness. At the expense of our own eardrums and sanity.

Highly recommended

I've had some fantastic reading experiences lately and want to share my discoveries with you.

Just before the holidays, I finished reading Their Eyes Were Watching God, by Zora Neale Hurston. It was completely gripping, with wonderfully unique and poetically way of describing a woman's conception of herself in relationship to... relationships. Anyway, really good book, and way more of a page turner than I expected.

Then, speaking of page-turners: Fingersmith. I'm going to read more Sarah Waters because Fingersmith was amazing. Les Mamans lent it to me in preparation for our next-after-next book club. I could not put it down. At all. Surpriso McTwisterson! I won't tell you anything about it, just trust me. I didn't absorb much "thematic" points of interest, because I was so taken by the plot, but it's really well-written... but which I mean I didn't notice I was reading words, I was just absorbing the story.

On the more mind-melting side of things, we've found a methadone to our Buffy addiction: Battlestar Galactica. Yum.

It's just not right

Barely six AM, and I'm at work. Like, in the office. Something's wrong with this picture.

In fact, McPie and his coworkers had a roadtrip to the Toronto office scheduled for today, ETD 6:00 AM. I drove him to the meeting point, because we do that sort of thing. Now I have like three hours to get stuff done, before the real day even starts.

At which point I will crawl under my desk and take a nap.
