Happy belated mother's day.

I have inherited a wonderful thing.

Constance and Ben are sitting on the couch; Constance is helping Ben with his homework. (Handy - Ben remains unconvinced that I have even grade one level French, and McPie is at a show.)

I left kitchen clean-up to check in to make sure everything was going ok. "Perfect!" said Constance, and I didn't doubt her, as I heard only academic discussion (or at least no bickering) from the room.

Then she patted the couch beside her, inviting me to join them.

"I have a little more clean-up to do," I told her.

"Oh, I thought you were finished."

Pause.

"Thank you for doing all the cleaning Heather!"

In my previous life, I never would have thought such words would mean so much.

If you are reading this and you are mother or father, I wish for you a child who thanks you so sincerely (even just once) for cleaning up after them.

I'm calling my girl's mother right after bedtime, to thank her for sharing this gift with me.

Still alive...

I've been trying to find time to post, but I have a big one brewing with lots of pictures and who has a whole hour all at once to put that together?!

I've started a vegetable garden, and have been taking pictures of it's progress. It's so thrilling! You will be thrilled.

There's been lots of yardwork and household chores (and maybe a little bit extra newspaper reading) going on: last week was my first working part-time, and my Monday and Friday and Monday off totally FLEW by... I barely checked email, let alone logged on for real writing. And still, I only got about 1% of my to-do list accomplished.

Working 3 days a week is much crazier work-wise... Expectations don't change too much and there's a lot more cramming and squeezing of days, for sure.

And we went away to Toronto for a frisbee tournament on the weekend, which ate up chunk of "free" time. But it was a great time. We didn't win much, but we felt great. The working out is helping. We can't wait for the league season to begin on Monday!

This coming weekend will also be busy - McPie's birthday! It's a nice, big, round number too. He's strangely missing from this list. Weird.

But hopefully things will settle down in the next while, and I shall regale you with tales of my gardening prowess. (Admittedly, I only have three vegetables, plus a couple of perennials - asparagus and rhubarb, but they will be the best loved veggies ever cultivated!)
